Since 1998, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has actively fostered awareness of environmental issues by participating with organizations such as the Natural Resources Defense Council, Global Green USA, and the International Fund For Animal Welfare. In 2001, Environment Now honored the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation with its prestigious Martin Litton Environmental Warrior Award.

The website www.leonardodicaprio.org was created in 2002 to inform and inspire Leo’s fans to get involved in environmental issues and solutions. After producing two short eco films, the foundation spearheaded the production of the feature-length environmental documentary, The 11th Hour, which was released in theaters in August of 2007. The foundation continues to support environmental initiatives and fosters global action to address the issues facing our planet.
